Joe Marsicano – Susquehannock Lodge’s 1st Ever Region Chief

Our next Centurion recipient is Joe Marsicano, for his service as an officer of Susquehannock Lodge, Sections NE-6 and NE-4C and the Northeast Region from 1991 to 1996.

Joe first joined scouting in 1984 as a Cub Scout. He earned his Arrow of Light Award before transitioning into Boy Scouts in 1986. Joe grew up in Troop 190, based in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He served in several leadership positions within in his unit. In 1990, four years after becoming a Boy Scout, Joe reached the pinnacle of scouting and earned the Rank of Eagle Scout. He later went on to earn six palms. Joe was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 1989 and took his Ordeal with Susquehannock Lodge XI at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation.

In Susquehannock Lodge, Joe served his fellow scouts in a variety of capacities. In 1991, Joe served as Lodge 1st Vice-Chief and sealed his membership in the Order by converting to Brotherhood Membership. After that, he served two terms as Lodge Chief, from 1992-1994, and was the 1992 NE-6 Conclave Coordinator. During Joe’s tenure as a youth in Lodge XI, the lodge Native American Dance Team grew and flourished as a result of his dedication and leadership not only as Lodge Chief, but also as an active member of the team.

In 1994 Joe kept his Vigil at Hidden Valley and was given the name: Wikhetschik Wimachtendienk which translates to: Builder of the Brotherhood. Later that same year, Joe was called to serve his section first as the Section NE-6 Vice-Chief and then later that year as the NE-4C Section Vice-Chief. A year later in 1995, Joe was elected to serve as the NE-4C Section Chief. That December he traveled to the Annual National OA Planning Meeting and was elected to the position of 1996 Northeast Region Chief. Joe made history for Susquehannock Lodge XI by becoming the first member of his lodge to ever be elevated to the position of Region Chief.

After serving as Northeast Region Chief, Joe came back to serve his lodge and section in a variety of different ways including: NE-4C Conclave Coordinator Adviser, NE-4C Associate Section Adviser, NE-4C Section Adviser, and NE-6A Section Adviser.

Joe has participated in many national events: several NOACs, National Jamborees, and Philmont and Florida Sea Base High Adventure programs. He is a Founder’s Award Recipient from Susquehannock Lodge XI and a Distinguished Service Award Recipient.
