Centurion Award – Jim Hoover

Jim Hoover

Jim Hoover

Our next Centurion recipient is Jim Hoover for his service to Susquehannock Lodge.

James “Jim” Hoover was truly a great Scouter who devoted much of himself to Scouting and the Susquehannock Lodge XI.  He joined the OA in his youth while also earning his Eagle Scout but really made a difference in the lives of boys as a Scouter.

He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 256 for almost two decades and introduced the boys to the magic of the Order of the Arrow while also being an extremely active adult in the lodge. He never held the official title of Lodge Advisor though he did much work behind the scenes in order that Susquehannock Lodge XI became reinvigorated and led by the youth.

He spent many weeknights and weekends with the Lodge Dance Team as its advisor. His outstanding organization and counseling skills were a major asset in advising youth for many events of the lodge and he was always willing to step in where ever needed.  Jim was not a Scouter in search of personal recognition but was rather inspired by helping youth grow into responsible young men.  I have rarely seen his prowess as a Scoutmaster, Advisor and Scouter matched in my 45 years of Scouting. This was a man who developed boys into gentlemen and truly believed that the high ideals and purposes of the Order of the Arrow were a great guideline in developing productive citizens.
