Ordeal Candidate Induction Information
Ordeal Candidates typically have three Induction opportunities in the year they are elected. The dates and locations of these Inductions are listed on the Lodge Calendar on this website, and will also be emailed to the candidates by the Lodgemaster system.
REGISTRATION
Register on the “Registration” page. Cost is $56, which includes Food, Handbook, Ordeal and Brotherhood Sashes, Lodge Dues and Flap. Registrations less than one week before the Induction Event incur a $5 late charge.
EVENT SCHEDULE
Friday | 7 PM | Arrival | Registration opens at 6:30 PM – please do not be early. Please plan for 7:00 to 7:30 PM arrival. All Candidates must arrive by 8:00 PM on Friday. Eat your evening meal before you arrive. |
Saturday | 9 PM | Early Departure | Candidates must be on-site continuously from 8:00 PM Friday to 9:00 PM Saturday. Candidates can leave at 9:00 PM Saturday night. Candidates are encouraged to stay over Saturday night – the full event runs to Sunday morning. |
Sunday | 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM | Regular Departure | All Candidates must be picked up by 10:30 AM on Sunday. |
There will be time on Saturday afternoon for Candidates to take showers.
Again, please note that Candidates must be on-site continuously from 8:00 PM Friday to 9:00 PM Saturday.
PARENTS MEETINGS
A meeting for parents will be held online the week of each Induction. The dates and times are listed below. A link to the meeting will be sent out by email to those who are registered for the upcoming Induction a few days before the online meeting. The meeting is not mandatory, but it is recommended parents attend if possible.
– April Induction – April 16, 2024 @ 7 PM
– May Induction – May 15, 2024 @ 7 PM
– August Induction – August 14, 2024 @ 7 PM
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
- At Arrival, you should
- Be wearing work clothing and sturdy footwear (hiking boots are a good choice)
- Present Parts A & B of the BSA Annual Health and Medical Record with you, signed by parent or guardian if under 18
- Have any medications out to give to the medical staff
- Packed into a Horseshoe Roll or on your person – Instructions on assembling a Horseshoe Roll are posted here. Backpacks are not permitted. Do not bring anything that is not on the list. No food or snacks (medical exceptions to be reviewed by med team).
- Ground Cloth / Tarp (6 ft x 8 ft or 8 ft x 10 ft size is good – it works well for candidate to put on the ground and fold half over top of themselves)
- Sleeping Bag or Two old Blankets
- Water Bottle or Canteen
- Rain Gear or Poncho
- Flashlight
- Note pad and pencil
- Pocket Knife
- Work Gloves
- Small First Aid Kit
- Optional: Hand Sanitizer (pocket size bottle)
- Packed into a Separate Small bag
- Toiletry and shower articles (Time is provided Saturday afternoon for Candidates to take showers and they are encouraged to do so)
- BSA Field Uniform
- Spare change of clothes
- Cell Phone if you bring one
- You may bring some money to purchase OA souvenirs and t-shirts.
